  4. So I came into possession of this little guy due to a late night Amazon impulse buy a few days before leaving for vacation. I was going on a weeklong trip with my family and didn’t want to have to bring my ipad (what I usually use to read) or any actual books with me on the plane. Let me preface this by saying I am an avid reader, spending the majority of my free time reading…and have been for most of my life. My siblings lament to anyone listening about the horror of summer road trips, riding in the back of our family sedan, fighting for leg room because I always had at least 5-6 books at my feet to read during our travels. You should hear the way my sister grumbles at even the mere mention of a car ride with me (She horribly dramatic) but I digress. I also used to have a nook e-reader, an original model Kindle from way back in the day that no longer works, and have the kindle app on my ipad which I use to read most days. So I am familiar with e-reading. This kindle is quite possibly the best purchase I’ve ever made. It’s basically pocket sized so it was extremely portable. I brought it with me everywhere; On the plane, in the car, in my bag to restaurants…I even managed to fit it in a particularly spacious pocket of an oversized jean jacket I wore on cooler nights. It’s amazing. It was comfortable enough to hold in one hand, or two, depending on what I preferred at the time. The various light options on the kindle, including the warm light feature makes it easy to read regardless of where I was and what kind of lighting is available, without eye strain. I shared a room with family for a couple of nights and the dark mode feature barely emits light past my immediate person, so I was able to read into the wee hours of the morning if I wanted to without disturbing my family sleeping in the same room, or sacrificing my precious reading time. ( I get particularly sassy if I’m interrupted in the middle of a discovering a plot twist in a juicy novel, i’m just saying). You are able to customize lots of the settings, such as the fonts, size, spacing and layout, so that the books look however you want them to while reading. (I definitely used that feature to make the font smaller and more compact while I read an embarrassingly cringleworthy, but suprisingly emotional and fantastic, harlequin romance novel while on the plane. It’s nobody’s business why I was practically sobbing into my complimentary pretzels after the protagonists romantic interest declared his love to her for the first time, thank you very much) I also may, or may not have had a TINY accident in which I spilled my entire 32oz water bottle full of water all over my pants and my kindle. After squealing in alarm at how cold the water was, I was able to get my bearings, wiped the water off the kindle, changed my pants and continued reading. I have noted no damage whatsoever to my kindle and that was at the beginning of my trip well over a week ago now. After reading every day for at least 4-6 hours per day/night for 7 days straight I had 57% battery left over. I think the battery is supposed to last for 2 weeks maybe? IDK. Basically it lasted a long time, long enough for me to be impressed. Also, I downloaded at least 15 new books on there, not to mention the impressive collection of books I already owned and was able to sync to the device, and I still have over 4GB of space available to use. I have since named the kindle Kurt, as I feel emotionally connected to the device after our adventures together these past weeks. If you are a super bookworm like me, or are just trying to finish a whole book for the first time, I highly recommend this device for purchase. I think it was worth the money a thousand times over. And if after reading this you do decide to purchase it, I hope you love it just as much as I do.

  5. FINAL UPDATE!!!If you have a dot already and you’re not in a rush to update you’re not missing out. The sound quality is better. Like most people I connect my dot to a Bluetooth speaker. So the updated sound quality is mute. The Eero installed mesh wifi is cool if you need to kill a dead zone. Definitely worth it ONLY IF you already have and Eero or plan on getting one. Tech support isn’t the best in this department. Read below. When I did get the tech support in the U.S. the knowledge of the Eero wifi was much better. The Tech Support they out source to foreign countries is terrible. They told me the Dot and the Eero don’t work together because I didn’t buy them together. Amazon was quick to give me a phone call after my review so know that they do read reviews and in good faith will do everything to rectify the problem (A huge plus for Amazon.)So the problem I had was not with the Echo Dot, but with the Eero wifi mesh extender. With the Eero it’s all about placement when it comes to these Echo dots. You want your Echo to be in the 5ghz range and NOT the 2.5Ghz. range. Do what you can to get the hub closer. It makes a HUGE difference. I did some digging online and found out that the Eero does well and placed up high also. I purchased a 100 foot cat5 network cable ($17). I Moved the Eero hub to the center of the house. I set it on top of a cabinet. The back room, where I was pulling 5-20mps is up to 432mps download. That’s without using the Eero extension on the Echo Dot.The dot has a motion sensor and tempurature sensor that works with my Smartthings Hub. I have not used them because I already have motion and temp sensors in this room that have active scenarios working.I’m going to keep this one and test the sensors a bit more and compare them to ones I have set up already.I would give this four stars but I can’t overlook the comedy of foreign tech support. This would’ve been a frustrating experience if I was pressed to get things working.ANOTHER UPDATE!!!!This junk is going back to the pit of hell it came from. Both of them. It’s a good idea but fails in its execution. The Eero built into these are random. Sometimes you connect, sometimes you don’t. I could stand a foot away from it and it will not connect to the Eero. This is a BRAND NEW product. If you buy this know that you are part of the BETA TEST crowd. You are the guinea pigs that Amazon is perfecting this on. So you pay your money so they can test this out.On one of my many calls to tech support they told me they only had very little training on these. The old wifi worked better than this.IT IS NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME!!!!!!!! WAIT TILL THEY WORK THE KINKS OUT!!!!New update!!!They don’t know what the hell they are doing at tech support.Stupid stuff I was told.1. It will only work when you buy them together. (The Eero and Echo dot with Eero installed.)Firmware needs to update. “How do I do that?” I ask. “I escalated the ticket to a higher level tech support.” I hung up. Called back and got a different tech. They told me to update simply tell Alexa,”Alexa, update firmware.” Like I told the other tech, the firmware is updated. Two tech calls ago the guy did it.So now they say they gotta call me back because they need to figure it out. LOL!!!!!STOOOOPID!This gets worse and worse. So now I’m on the phone AGAIN with tech support. This idiot told me the Echo Dot with EERO won’t work with the Eero mesh I purchased because ,”I did not buy them together.” What special kind of stupid is this!! So Eero is putting their name on products that do NOT work with other EERO products. I asked to speak to someone else. I’ve been on hold for 20min.Amazon got something’s right but this is a mess.Tech support has no clue on how to fix this. I’m going to return this crap. But now I want to see how dumb tech support is.They asked which model do I have. There’s only one with EERO in it.She didn’t know that.Ten minutes later and I’m back on the phone with tech support. Signal drops constantly. Tech support no help on this one hot piece of garbage!!!!I spent some time on the phone with tech support. This had to be configured so the Eero would work. I’m getting good download speeds now. I hope it lasts. The sound is a bit of an improvement. More bass and highs. It’s not easy to set up the Eero. They had to. Get inside and configure it to work. A hassle but it works. Tech support for Amazon can’t help. Call the Eero hot line. This won’t even hold the wi-fi signal. My router is the the living-room. The download speeds standing next to the Eero mesh wifi is great. 550mps.In the office I installed the New Echo dot with eero installed for mesh. Without the Echo dot I’m getting 91mps. That’s just off the Eero transmitting from the living room. Better than I expected. Now when I hook the Echo Dot up and I run the test.I get a whopping 0.14 mbps download. I’m sitting a foot away from it.Total garbage.

  6. This is so easy to setup and use, I wish I got this years ago. I’ll be honest, and I feel a bit foolish admitting this, but: Despite hearing about the Fire TV stick’s existence for years, I never considered it because I thought there was a monthly fee! I didn’t want to pay for anything beyond my subscriptions, so I never even read the details. I put my television in a box in the attic when I ‘cut the cord’ with my cable company in 2012 and it’s been there ever since. I’ve been watching ‘TV’ on my desktop PC or on my Kindle. This worked well enough for years, but during the pandemic I began spending a lot more time streaming shows and despite replacing my desk chair with a more comfortable chair, it just wasn’t ergonomic and became more and more uncomfortable, so I needed to reconsider my TV setup. Enter the Fire Stick! This time I read the details – and then re-read them, and then Youtubed videos about it, because I couldn’t believe it really didn’t cost anything per month! You just buy the stick and plug it in and that’s it?! Yep!So here’s a few noteworthy points: First, it does not use USB; I saw this pop up in the questions for this product quite a bit. Technically the wall adapter plugs into the included USB cord – just like your kindle charger, etc. But there’s no USB needed for the actual television end, it uses an HDMI port and that’s it. Interestingly, I almost didn’t get it because I was sure the TV I bought back in 2009 wouldn’t have an HDMI port, but I finally went up to the attic to check and sure enough, it has one! So be sure your TV has an HDMI port, that’s required.Setup was ridiculously easy. Just attach the items in the box together and plug it into the HDMI port on the back of your TV and then plug the other end into a wall outlet. That’s it! Then turn the TV on and the setup will walk you through the rest, signing you into your Amazon account, calibrating the included remote control, updating (several times), choosing streaming apps to start with, etc. It’s all very simple. If you want to watch paid streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, etc you must have a paid subscription to them. But there’s other services/apps such as Pluto TV and others that are totally free and have a decent variety of ad-supported content, both shows and movies as well as news. And Amazon’s apps are of course there, like Amazon Music and Prime Video (if you subscribe to Prime Video). I only have Hulu and Prime Video currently as paid subscriptions, but there’s plenty of free content to supplement. In fact, I even have my local news which surprised me (they must stream on a live app and I never realized it).So basically, it aggregates various paid and free streaming apps to one place and this little stick presents them all in one nice looking interface, letting you use your remote to choose programming, just like TV. To be clear, the Fire TV stick runs off your wifi signal, so be sure you have wifi at home. On one hand it doesn’t give you anything you can’t get without it, but on the other hand, the convenience of having it all accessible in one place is fantastic and makes it feel like I’m getting all kinds of new content. Some of the apps I’ve never even heard of, so there is new-to-me content in that regard. The interface is excellent and fairly intuitive, and the remote works great. I am super glad I opted for the Fire TV stick option that comes with the remote that also has TV controls like volume and mute, so I can do it all with the remote that came with it. Now I can sit in my living room like a normal person and watch TV (streaming services) comfortably from my couch; I should have got this years ago.Just be sure you have:1. A TV with an HDMI port2. Wifi at home3. OPTIONAL: Paid services if you want to watch Hulu, Netflix, etc. Otherwise you can still use this to access free content.

  7. I’m an avid reader & always wanted a reader for all my books – just my books. Bought this for my introduction into Kindles as I never had one before and I decided why not try it out. Can’t say it was a bad one – actually it was a very good one. Took the Paperwhite Kindle 6.8″ locked ad 16gb for my first and I appreciate it. Got me the Kindle + Kindle unlimited subscribtion. What I like about the Kindle:This reader is wonderful and saves my eyes from the glare of the phone or tablet I once used. Apart from the glare free screen, I like that I can be on a bus reading, with the sunlight pouring through, or sitting outside in the bight environment of day light and I have no problems reading the screen. At night, I can set the screen and read comfortable as well. Yes, its easy on the eyes. The ads run when the screen is closed and isn’t a bother while on & reading. The kindle goes on for days without having to charge. YES! I had to test out that particular line “up to 10 weeks of battery life”. 10 weeks is a stretch if you’re a reader reading daily – If you’re a reader who reads off and on or every two days or so, it could probably last up to 10 weeks. But as long as you’re a frequent user reading – it can last up to about 10 days (almost or 2 weeks). The battery life is great! I also decided to try the waterproof theory but not too much (lol) I was reading one day while at a funeral, and rain decided to pour down a bit. I stood there under the light drizzle but not the pouring rain – so, i’ll say the screen is waterproof, not sure about the emersion theory. Definitely good on storing books. Before I received my kindle, as an author new to the Bookstagram community, I found some good deals such as “Stuff Your Kindle Day” or other free books download and began downloading to my account. When received my E-reader, and got it set up, had about almost 3000 books. So, the storage is pretty okay. I don’t have Audible nor a subscription for audio books – so, I can’t exactly say that the audio hands free is a go. I have to give this a try as I have a audio book trial to listen to and will give an update on this later.Perspective:The device is great, easy to use, great for traveling with. It’s thin, lightweight and battery life last long (not the whole 10 weeks) like I explained above (rolls eyes). Definitely can use at the beach, river, waterfalls, springs (bodies of water) as long as you’re careful not to lose it (lol). Shades of pages can be changed, or you can schedule the light changes, Can adjust the size of the font you wish to use to read. The screen is black and white – as in the colored cover of books won’t be seen. But I’m good with that. This is only for Amazon Kindle reader – No other books apps can be used on the kindle. You can read, pdf files (don’t really like how some of these pdfs read on it & I more prefer the epubs), epubs. Haven’t bothered to try other files…I do know that on my app on my phone, png, jpeg would be seen. I think it’s good for the price I got it for.Recommend or Not?Why not? If you’re new to the books e-readers like me, I see nothing wrong in giving it a chance to see if you’re into having just a kindle or if you’d prefer a tablet e-reader where you can have the Kindle app and other ebook apps as well for your reading. (If you looking for a reader to host kobo, bookfunnel library, booksprout app, etc then buy a tablet this won’t do). If you have no problem with having a read that shows your book covers black & white, sure get it. There are other kindle that cost more with the colored cover display.Other than that, Yes I recommend it.

  8. Let me prequalify this review stating that I have been an Amazon Firestick and Fire TV and Fire TV Recast user almost since they’ve first come out. I’ve purchased about 20 of these over my lifetime so far, so I have considerable experience with them. So my requests are probably not beginner requests but things I’ve noticed over time. There are a few crucial features I think should be added to Firestick to make them a game-changing option.1) The faster processing when changing menues. The firstick is great but becomes sluggish over time. Short of a full factor reset it would be nice to have a way to clear and manage memory better. Also optimized screen display with perhaps text placeholders before images are displayed. Sometimes the menus take up to 20-50 seconds to come up.2) Pictue-in-Picture mode. It would be a great addition to allow picture in picture so you can be previewing a local news channel, youtube or other live content while watching a movie.3) Multi-screen capability to be able to connect multiple HDMI devices or synchronize between firestick devices for a single control point. An example of this would be where video has extended content, displayed it on a second screen. Or create a multi-screen wide-screen for a panorama effect.4) Skill panels as an extensible video overlay. For example, have skills for different overlay tasks suck as a SmartHome panel or Stock Ticker panel that you can enable to overlay on a box on the screen or along the bottom ticker.5) Internal Volume – the ability to control volume directly from the Firestick device for those TVs or sound bars that do not easily integrate with the remote. This is especially handy when streaming the audio via the HDMI output.

  9. This Amazon shift card is a great option for gifts. I have never had any issues with it arriving within minutes and you can personalize it for the receiver with the look of the card and the message they receive. I am aware that some people frown on gift cards and consider them to be the ‘lazy’ gift giving option, but I must respectfully disagree. There are no concerns with the delivery being timely as it gets sent directly to the recipient’s phone number that you provide, and arrives within moments of the giver making the transaction. The recipient is usually thrilled to be able to select exactly what they want for the happy occasion, rather than relying on the gift giver to select something for them that they may not have preferred. I gave this card to my daughter for her birthday, and she was very excited to receive it. I didn’t have to worry about mailing a package and it possibly being mis-delivered to the neighbor two blocks away and never turning back up, or the package being dropped accidentally in a mud puddle and ran over by the garbage truck prior to showing up on her doorstep in questionable state, I also was able to give her directly the full amount of the money for her gift, rather than having to subtract an exorbitant amount of the allotment for shipping. When debating internally on whether or not a gift card is the right choice, I always flash back to the memory of a young relative receiving a hand made colorful vest, from a relative for her birthday. The article of clothing was well made, had obviously cost some money to construct from the quality of the fabrics and had undoubtedly taken considerable time to make as it was sewn out of numerous multi colored fabrics with strategic tufts of the same colourful fabric springing out all over the front and back of the vest. While it’s quite possible that it may have looked great on an emaciated model walking the runway at fashion week in New York City, the recipient was a teenage girl who was a little on the bigger side and at an awkward stage of her teenage years. She probably wouldn’t have minded, if, like a camera, the vest added 10 lbs to her profile. Unfortunately -and I am actually downplaying the full effect in order to be kind – it easily made her look 3 sizes bigger the second she put it on! Needless to say, I believe she wore it one time at Christmas, when the gift giver was in town – but that was the one and only time it ever emerged from her closet! The gifter was a very sweet aunt that had a reputation for being involved with the latest fashion. The aunt usually made clothing that was admired and envied by all the recipient’s peers, and she was known within the family construct to be the ‘cool’ aunt, favored by all neices and nephews. The incident taught me a valuable lesson, that even the best intended gift givers will occasionally make a terrible gift giving choice. I have never felt that I was particularly great at picking out gifts anyway, so the odds aren’t in my favor of a terrible choice being a one time event! So, I usually choose to eliminate the potential of turning a gift for someone I love on their happy occasion into a torturous memory where they pretend to love it, but in reality are secretly looking up spells online at night, in the hopes they will find one that results in the spontaneous combustion of an object. They finally locate the one for the job, but the cost is the sale of one’s soul….after a 2 hour debate with themselves, which is decided by opening the closet and seeing the gift once more, they decide it’s definitely worth the cost if it means no one will ever see them wearing the object! At the holidays everyone is perplexed by Mandy’s strange behavior, refusing to eat anything and speaking in a deep, guttural tone. We note that her huge black eyes follow you everywhere…weird, really thought the they used to be green, must be some creepy new teenage thing with colored contacts or something. Quite the obsession she has with that new knife collection of hers…Seriously, I have yet to have a single person be upset over receiving this gift card, in fact I generally receive much thanks and happy smiles. It’s the perfect go to for any event. However, if you consider yourself to be a dangerous risk taker on birthdays – by all means go ahead and send your nephew that pink bunny rabbit pajama ensemble and insist on getting the 1st photo from his mom so you can post it to facebook. Just don’t be shocked when you receive a call two weeks later from your nephew’s mom to tell you that there was a freak accident resulting in a fire in their backyard after your gift arrived, thankfully the house was saved, but the pink bunny pajamas were sadly lost. Maybe she will send you a photo of your little nephew’s soot streaked face, since he told her that he had tried so very hard to rescue his gift from you that he loved so much! I’ll go ahead and stick to this gift card, as it seems to carry much less chance of tragic accidents occurring upon it’s arrival…

  16. I reloaded my Amazon account with one of those pesky Mastercard/Visa gift cards that come loaded with an exact amount. I used that amount to reload my Amazon card and now I can use it for any Amazon purchase without having to worry about exact $ loaded on the non Amazon card! It is great!

  17. When it comes to giving gifts, it’s not just about the present but also the connection it fosters. Amazon’s gift card system adds an extra layer of joy to this experience with a feature I absolutely love: receiving a notification when the recipient opens their gift card. This feature transforms the act of giving into a shared moment, no matter the distance.First off, the convenience factor of Amazon’s gift cards is unmatched. You can choose any amount, design, and delivery method—be it digital, printed, or even through a greeting card. But the standout feature for me is the thoughtful notification system. There’s something quite satisfying about getting a prompt alert when your gift has been opened. It not only confirms that the gift has reached its intended recipient safely but also gives you a sense of participation in their moment of surprise and happiness. This added touch enhances the emotional value of the gift. It’s reassuring to know exactly when your gesture of kindness has been received, bridging the gap between sender and receiver beautifully. It turns a simple transaction into an interactive experience, making both parties feel more connected.Overall, Amazon gift cards offer a seamless and satisfying way to show you care. The notification feature particularly stands out, ensuring that the joy of giving is reciprocated by the joy of knowing your gift has made someone’s day a little brighter.

  18. Amazon Reload has completely transformed the way I manage my shopping budget on Amazon. It’s incredibly convenient to reload my gift card balance, and I love the added control it gives me over my expenditures. The process is straightforward, secure, and instant—no waiting around for funds to appear. Plus, the periodic bonus offers for reloading certain amounts are a fantastic perk. It’s an excellent way to ensure I never miss a deal because my balance is too low. Highly recommend for anyone who shops regularly on Amazon!

  19. Talking about the product, it is really good! You can get really good and high sound through this echo dot.I bought at a deal price of 27.99 which is really affordable for the quality it has. It has good voice recognition for sure, even if speak in an accent it understands me. The only downside of this device I believe is it doesn’t have a lot of answers seeded in itself to answer you. It can answer general facts, set alarm, schedule reminders, play music, that’s all. I am satisfied by all the features it has because I don’t need any other fancy functionality as it is just a smart speaker. I recommend to buy it.

  20. This was a replacement for a fire stick I had about 5 years. I have 6 televisions so I often am replacing a fire stick about once a year. They are always improving. So, I put the new fire stick on my largest TV that I use the most and move the old fire stick from there to an extra television such as in a spare bedroom, the kitchen, my sewing room, etc. They do not last forever. I got rid of my cable and just have internet because the cost of cable in my area is ridiculous. With the fire sticks I get more than I ever did with cable. Plus I can have as many televisions as I want in various areas ready to use as needed. All you need is an electric outlet and you have a working TV within a couple minutes. You can set the TV up anywhere, even porches, patios, work benches in garages, craft areas, spare rooms. No messy wires to deal with behind the television. With cable I was charged extra for each television so I had to move TVs to spare rooms, if the room had a cable connection, as needed when I had company. For the cost of replacement for these , they are well worth the price. I doubt I will ever go back to cable unless there are a lot of changes in the set up convenience. There is a learning curve. Once you do it once, it is a breeze to set up a new unit.

  21. Great value and quick fix for my 10 year old smart tv that no longer supported Netflix. Easy to install. Avoid using the phone scan sign in that asks for a credit card. Amazon Prime movies are easier to watch too. My tv remote was not navigating correctly.

  23. I am a senior citizen. I do not like to have my debit card online but I do like using Amazon! Leaving home to shop is not easy now so recharging my Amazon account gives me a sense of security.

  24. I’m in a year-long clinical pharmaceutical trial, and receive periodic payments in the form of a digital VISA debit card, ranging from $10-35. Each payment is a separate digital card, which makes it extremely difficult to redeem fully. I guess they figure if they make it sufficiently difficult to redeem the rewards, people just won’t use them, and the company can keep their money.I simply added each card as a payment method on my Amazon account and purchased reloads in the amount of each card. Couple hundred bucks added to my Amazon account, and delete when finished. Boom.

Okay… like everyone else in these comments… I was always a “I like a physical book and a physical book only” person. However… I got this thing yesterday and LOVE it. I have an iPad I literally never use. It stays dead. I have tried to read books on it, and it never works out. The iPad is too big and too heavy and it just never stuck. This little guy. It is the PERFECT size on my hand. It it is so lightweight. I love the color adjustments. I thought the black and white would be boring and remind me of an old baby Nokia from 2000 but I actually love that it so simple. There aren’t games or cameras or any flashy stuff on it and I LOVE that about it because I am so easy distracted. I love that I can set my phone away from me and read on this without any notifications popping up. I usually play games on my phone which is fine because they are strategic games but I really wanted to start reading more and books can be so expensive and take up so much space. This thing is so easy to grab and go with. I will finish my first book on it tonight after only having it for two days with a full time job. I have only been reading in the evenings and it makes it so much easier for me. I love that I can use it at night with the night mode and brightness adjusting option and it’s so lightweight I can lay on my side and hold it like how I do my phone. If you’re thinking about buying it, just do it. You won’t regret it.
